Do you want to make sure the right people can be contacted in a medical emergency when you can’t speak for yourself? Do you want to be sure YOU can be contacted in an emergency if something happens to a parent, or your grandmother?

The Maryland MVA has a form you can print out and fill in up to 3 emergency contact numbers to be contacted in case of an emergency. This could save vital time in emergency. It might save a life if this card is just tucked into Grandma’s wallet.

You could do this yourself with a 3×5 card, but the MVA form is much more likely to be discovered and used by a first responder. So we recommend using this form.

Being with your family over the holidays is the perfect time to set this up.

I once met an older lady in a Starbucks who had wondered away from her daughter’s house. She was very confused and didn’t know how she got there or how to get back. She could not or would not let me call her daughter for her. Luckily one of the employee’s had a mother with dementia and volunteered to sit with her and talk her into giving up her daughter’s cell phone. It would have been nice to know that information was safely tucked away in that lady’s wallet.

If you have children, parents, friends or relatives who drive, make sure they have taken advantage of this feature. This could be especially important for someone who lives alone.

Even if they have a cell phone with contacts, which number in that list is a Doctor or EMS Tech supposed to call? How would a first responder access the phone without using face ID or a fingerprint?

You can tell emergency services exactly who to call in an emergency by using this feature from MVA.

So to provide police and medical personnel with emergency contact tied to your drivers’ license, click this link and follow the instructions.
