Here in Southern Maryland we have some wonderful hiking and biking trails.

But once you get off these trails or out of your neighborhood you may find yourself either riding or walking along a road that is being used by motorists as if it were an interstate highway!

People drive fast and reckless around here!

Just looking out our office on 228 in Waldorf or our office on 235 in Lexington Park,  you will see pedestrians and bicyclist competing with cars and trucks for space on the roads.

Needless to say when a pedestrian or cyclist collide with a vehicle, the vehicle wins.  One of the surprising statistics is that 24% of those who are killed in a cycling accident had a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher.

For more on this and other statistics see the article Pedestrian and Bicyclist Crash Statistics.

Conclusion & Next Steps

Needless to say when a pedestrian or cyclist collide with a vehicle, the vehicle wins. Don’t be one of those statistics you read about in the news. Be safe on the road if you are a pedestrian or bicyclist.
