Years ago my daughter adopted a great dane. He is now passed on, but he became a part of our family.

If you think we are crazy to have a great dane you should take some time to learn about this great bread of dog.

When I realized we were coming up on the anniversary of Floyd’s “Forever Home Day” I remembered a story I caught on the radio once about a tax break for the volunteers of certain organizations such as Mid Atlantic Great Dane Rescue who act as pet foster parents.

To take these deductions the foster parent must be working under the direction of a 501 (3) (c) organization, and the deductions must be directly related to the care of the foster pet. For more details consult your tax advisor.

For a podcast on the topic go to minutes 5 of this broadcast from The Animal House, or to Discovery for an detailed article on the case.

While we we are on topic of pets, if you have a friendly dog who is great with people consider volunteering your pet as a therapy dog to hospitals, special needs centers, schools, and nursing homes. If this is something you are interested in a great place to start is the Therapy Dogs site.
