Happy Earth Day! It’s a little-known fact that we try to be green all year round at Andrews, Bongar, Gormley & Clagett. We instituted our “Green Office Initiative” a couple of years ago. It has been a success, but has also created a lot of work for us!
Our county does not have any process for picking up recycling at businesses. So we purchased two big trash cans and fill them up with cans, bottles, and such. One of the partners (Tucker Clagett) personally takes them home and puts them on the curb with his own recycling from his house. It is the only way to get it done – other than a trip to the dump each week.
Another partner (Dave Gormley) takes care of the paper recycling. He takes this giant, heavy box of used paper (shredded for security, of course) home every so often and puts it out on his curb with his own personal recycling.
Technically, this is not legal. The County has no way for local businesses to recycle unless they take it to the dump. But they sort of turn a blind eye to the extra bags of recycling they see every few weeks on our personal curbs. So I guess it works, but it isn’t easy.
Next up – trying to use electronic data storage much more than printing paper. That is a trickier thing to do but will really result in less impact on good ole’ Mother Earth.
